no. 5

So, I got a tattoo.  It's my fifth!  It was a Valentine's present to myself.  Beau also got one, so maybe we got them for each other… but really, we got them for ourselves.  Mine is a quote from The Muppets.

"As long as there are singing frogs and joking bears,
Swedish chefs and boomerang fish,
the world can't be that bad of a place."

I love the Muppets. I love this tattoo.  I loved this weekend.

Tattoo!

That's the tattoo I got this week.  It was kind of an overdue birthday tattoo (which was in May.)  I waited so long because I had so many ideas in my head and I was also not 100% ready to endure a whole lot of pain.  I'm kind of a baby, even though none of my tattoos have hurt that bad.  Ultimately, I went with something pretty big but simple.  And will probably be added on/filled in later.  Oh, it's an ampersand (not a B or an E) taken from a vintage marquee.  And it's because of improv.

I recently (over the past two months) have started directing.  I have been teaching improv classes over the past year and it's one of my favorite parts of my job.  I think it's really fun to see people grow and understand improv and start getting it.  Directing is even more fun because I'm working with super talented people and just guiding them and helping them hone their skill.

I really like it.  It's exciting.  And this week, the house team I direct (Two Star Hotel) had their first show and the other team I direct (WNBA) had their second show with a completely new structure.  And both were great.  And I got to perform with Awkward Compliment again and we had a really nice slow, patient and super fun set.  And I'm performing with my usual cast all weekend.  It's just one of those weeks where I look around and think, "I'm not a kid anymore.  I'm not the "younger" generation anymore.  I'm the current generation!"

I quit my job this year to focus on doing what I love.  And I'm doing it.  Sometimes it's stressful and sometimes it gets me down, but I'm doing it.

(The picture of the tattoo is weird and hard to really see.  But do you know how hard it is to take a picture of your back without having it look skanky? It's hard!)

i don't need another tattoo.

I hate to be cliche... but since I got a tattoo (or 3) I can't stop wanting to get more. I'm addicted. There's just something about them that I love. I look back so fondly on every single day that I went to get my tattoos... and I loved the exhilarating feeling.

Now I sound like I'm on drugs.

Here are some that I've been oogling.

{that's a man. but he looks attractive from the knee down.}

{never thought of that location. now i can't stop.}

{LOVE the look of this.}

Oops, I Did it Again.

Today, I was at work and I was like, "What are we going to do today, Patty?"

We were having a real tough time. We didn't want to go home because all we'd do is nap and worry. Worry and nap. Nobody was around, because everyday my friends are shuffling. So... I had some time to kill... and I've been thinking about getting it... and... well...

I got a new tattoo!

If you've seen my blog header, this little guy has been up there for years. I've always considered it my logo because it's ME. I wear glasses! And I do comedy! So, it's perfect. I love it. I went to Sting Ray Tattoo in Allston and Nate was the tattoo artist. He was awesome. We joked about things which made the pain sorta non-existent.

 And I like that my arm has a face, now.
And that I match my wall.

And now I always have to walk around like this.

Different shirt, different glasses, same Patty.

Anyway, I love it. I'm so happy. All in all, good Friday. The holiday.

HAVE A GOOD WEEKEND.
watch out for Irene!

baroquespiration.

i'm itching to get another tattoo for my 25th birthday.
i like the idea of a baroque style one.
why? here are three reasons:

i have an art history degree.
i love french baroque art and design.
i have a baroque duvet cover.

if my duvet cover isn't inspiring enough,
well here's some other inspiration:

ok. those are bookshelves. but i mean, they're baroque.  and i like them.
but no, i'm not going to get bookshelves tattooed on my body. maybe.

at the very least, i could slap a wall decal on me and call it a day.
done.

Tattoo, not t.A.t.u.

Since the dawn of time – or at least the dawn of Patty Barrett – I have been one of those people who talk, talk, talk… but I don't do, do, do. Of course, there are some exceptions – I said I’d take improv classes, and I did! But, it did take me a few years to bite the bullet and do it. I’m tired of that behavior.

So, on Saturday, I decided to get a tattoo. I’ve wanted one since I turned 18, and the only reason I never got one was fear. I was afraid of the pain more than anything. But, it was time! Kelly wanted to get one, so the two of us made the trek out to Allston to get INKED.

We brought Marty and Trevor along. They hated every minute of it. The place, Stingray, was only taking walk-ins that day, so we had to wait for over two hours to get them. I was so nervous! I had butterflies in my stomach, I kept breathing heavily and the words “Oh my god” were repeating over and over in my head, but I did it.

I squeezed Kelly’s hand, and as soon as the needle made impact, I let go and said, “Oh.” The artist laughed and told me it’s never as bad as people think. It barely hurt. It was uncomfortable and weird, but I wouldn’t say it was horrendously painful. I’ve felt worse pain just walking down the street! {I’m very clumsy.}

{up close! it's still a little red, if you couldn't tell.}

{on my forearm.}

It says, "Non, je ne regrette rien" which is my favorite Edith Piaf song {if you saw "La Vie En Rose", it's the song she sings at the end. it was also in "Inception".} It means, "No, I regret nothing". I'm so happy with it! And I've got mixed reviews. Well, mainly positive ones! Only Evan freaked out. But... I love it. A lot. And that's all that really matters.

It's the first thing I crossed off my "list" of things to do, so I'm proud of myself for DOING and not just TALKING. Now... on to the rest of them.

P.s. Look at Trevor and Marty's sick tats. I'm a tattoo artist now!
