JONE BONE!

I’m super cheesy. But I love my friends. I love the huge support system I have… because even if I’m not super close to all of them – I still have those people who I go to when I just need to laugh and I know they’ll do that without me telling them why I need to laugh. Or the people who I talk to and say, “I’m upset because of this…” and they bluntly say, “Well, don’t be.” or “Who cares?” And then the ones who allow me to be self-indulgent and talk for hours even though they know I’m being totally stupid. Or those who don’t need to say much, but just look at me like I’m the silliest person in the world and just say, “Really?” or “Him?” or “Gross.” Or my sister who leads me to think I’m never at fault for my feelings, which makes me feel better and it feeds my ego, which probably doesn’t need anymore feeding, let’s be honest.

Last week, I picked on the hippest hipster I know, Ryan McFarland.

Today, I want to talk about Jonah Kanin.

I can’t really explain why I love Jonah so much. But I’ll try:

1. Jonah is probably one of the sweetest people I’ve ever met in my life. (Neck and necksies with Kirsten Opstad, who I’m sure I’ll spotlight later…) He doesn’t judge anyone, and while most of us (meaning everyone in the world) dislike people from get go and then build up to liking them, Jonah loves everyone he meets. And he’s totally sincere about it. It’s refreshing.

2. Jonah is a graduate of Harvard University (ever heard of it?) where he studied Mythology and Folklore! Right now, he uses that degree to coach high school wrestling and lead Freedom Trail tours, and perform improv with two groups, “Don’t Tell Mimi” and “The Leather Gang”. Also, he’s under 5 feet.

3. If you ever need to talk to anyone, I’d recommend talking to Jonah. Even if you’re making awful decisions, he's supportive. “Jonah, I can’t stop liking this person even though they’re terrible to like!” He’ll say, “That’s OK, Patty. You can like him!” or, “Jonah, I slept with this person and I shouldn’t have.” He’ll say, “That’s OK, Patty! You can sleep with him!” or “Jonah, I killed this man and I don’t feel bad about it.” He’ll say, “That’s OK, Patty! You don’t need to feel bad about it!”

4. He’s an absolutely hilarious improviser with a giant stage presence for such a tiny man.

5. He’s so much fun to pick up and twirl around every time you see him! I literally get that excited to see him! Every time I see him!

That was easy.

I think everyone needs a little bit of Jonah in their life in order to survive!
