Mad Men !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mad Men is quite the TV show. Everyone agrees. But it just gets me. It always seems like whatever is happening on Mad Men is also happening in my life at the time. It's super creepy. Plus, whenever I'm going through a Mad Men watching phase, I put more effort into myself and generally look better.

Clearly, I'm excited that it's coming back. I've rewatched Season Four at least 6 times. I still cry every time I watch "The Suitcase." Here are promo pics for the show. Joan is so fucking gorgeous. That's all.

You Can Call Me Joan

I just don't feel like being me today. There's too much going on in my life that I really can't figure out. I can't make a decision. I'm anxious and confused all the time. I have too many balls in the air. And boys! Don't get me started on boys! I'm super frustrated and there's really no helping it... so, I'm going to be someone else.

I'm going to be Joan Holloway Harris.

When people talk to me, I'm going to look at them as if they should know the answer to their own question and they have no right wasting my time with silly things.

If anyone treats me poorly, I'm going to let them know that I hope they die in the Vietnam war. I mean, I know that's like super out of context and we're not in the Vietnam War anymore. But, still.

I'm going to walk around like I own the place, because let's face it, I do.

I'm going to flaunt my shiiit and strut my stuff.

I'm going to listen to the song "C'est Magnifique" and pretend I can play it on the accordion.

I'm going to be confident with who I am and make decisions that I want to make just because I feel like it. And if I make mistakes, then so be it. I'll handle them with grace and maturity  because I understand that I'm responsible for my actions. But... I don't regret them.

And oh yeah, I'll be fucking hot!

Open Letter to Jon Hamm

Hi Jon Hamm, it's me, your friend Patty.

No... I'm not your friend. But I do believe if we met, we'd be great friends.

No... we wouldn't.

Here's what I'd like to say to you:

I have two favorite things in life:
You and Television.
In the "Television" category falls two of my favorite TV shows in the history of television (and there were a lot of good ones to choose from, like "Reba" and "Cheers"),"30 Rock" and "Mad Men". You're in both of them! You're always in "Mad Men", but you probably know that. Sometimes you're in "30 Rock", and I can tell that it's not always necessary - but they bring you back because they like working with you. I like that about you.

I like working with you. (I've never worked with you.)

I like watching you work! For the following reasons: You're quite good-looking. You have a great bone structure, they don't make guys like you anymore. God must have spent a little more time on you. You play a convincing jerk! And a convincing sexy man. You're also very funny. I like that you're friends with Paul Rudd. I liked him in Clueless. I think you and Jack McBrayer should have a hilarious sitcom together. And... you have touched Tina Fey on the face.

There is nothing else I want to accomplish in this letter.

Oh, I can't wait to kiss your face! When I meet you in Heaven.

Your love is like a river peaceful and deep,
Patricia Margaret Fork Barrett

Mad Men vs. Life

image via Gawker.

Has anyone been watching Mad Men this season? I'm not going to give anything away. But HOLY SHIT. It's so good! It's definitely one of the best seasons - which is great because I hate when shows lose steam as seasons progress. Steam is not lost!

Here are some life lessons I've learned through Mad Men this season:

"You want respect? Go out there and get it for yourself."

"People tell you who they are, but we ignore it because we want them to be who we want them to be."

We spend all of our time wanting something other than what we have, and then when we get it - we spend all of our time wishing for what we had.

It has always been a struggle for women to get respect in the workplace. Even with people you're friendly with. It was crazy to see it happen in these episodes and think, "Well, yeah, I still go through that every day." C'mon people.

On another "I am woman, hear me roar!" note... We've watched Peggy grow over the past few years, and she struggled and fought her way into a male-dominated career and she's succeeding. But she still has always longed to be one of the guys {like when she showed up to the strip club to meet the client that time, or when she asks why she's not invited places all the time}... and then she went into the men's room, and realized that's not who she wanted to be at all. She wanted to be a girl. Girlz rule!

I often struggle with that. "If I were a guy, I'd get this..." but, in the end, I love hanging out with my guys. And I like cracking jokes with my guys. But every now and then, I'm going to be grossed out and offended. Because I'm a woman. And I'm allowed that!

Maybe this season's just hitting close to home with me - from several different story lines! But honestly, it's teaching me a lot about life. In a really awesome, well-dressed way.

Cheering Up

Over the weekend, my friend Trevor was bummed out. So, a few of my friends and I declared Saturday “Trevor’s Day of Fun”. Even if it meant we couldn't go on the Codzilla. Booooo!

During the day, we shopped, ate Wendy's and made fun of my love for belting. I love a belt! Is that so wrong?

Then we got dressed up and hit the town! Mad Men style! We went to the Liberty Hotel and had some {super expensive} drinks! And after that, things got less Mad Men-y. Yes, like an hour into our Mad Men night. We left the fancy bar to walk across town to an Asian karaoke place. It was closed. We walked further away to some bar called Flash’s {which I dubbed a lesbian bar, but Jeremy told me definitely wasn't. Pfft.} Kelly and I walked in and sat down alone on the same side of the table. We both ordered the “Lesbian Fizz”.

It was all fine, because our handsome gentlemen walked in after us! “Look! We’re with boys!” I wanted to shout, but instead I said to the waitress, “Has anyone ever told you that you look like a character on Mad Men?” “No, I’ve never seen it.” “Oh, well, you look like this one girl. She’s very pretty!”

We never saw her again. We immediately had a new waitress. {Who I shall call Renee, because she looked like my friend Matt Catanzano’s girlfriend. Also very pretty!}

So, it was pretty clear the waitress thought I was a lesbian. Whatever. I didn’t care, because three cocktails later I passed out at the table. I didn’t even realize I had that much to drink until Bryan and Trevor kept shoving me to wake me up. Eventually, I woke up.

And ten minutes later I was sitting in the basement of an incredibly bright Chinese restaurant, named the Peach Farm, eating scallion pancakes and lo mein at 3am.

Overrall, I woke up feeling okay {thankfully} and Trevor got a good laugh at my expense {really, who falls asleep at tables?} and I got to be a good friend while hanging out with good friends. Even if our Mad Men night wasn't so authentic.

P.s. I love Trevor.
